Nick Sand was released on parole late in 2000. During his parole time he spent days with friends near a small town in Northern California and returned at night to custody.
While on parole he spoke at the Mind States II conference held in May 2001 in Berkeley.
By 2004 he had been given a greater degree of liberty, but was still not entirely free. In 2007 all restrictions were lifted and he is now free to travel anywhere.
