Breaking News From The DrugMoney Times!

Everybody's heard the old saw about the three blind men using their hands to "see" a huge pachyderm at the circus... The first man, feeling the trunk, describes a large snake... The second man, touching an oversized ear, describes a palm frond... and so forth.

But this anecdote aptly illustrates how what remains of America's free press has grappled with describing how our nation's intelligence agencies (and their operatives) have subverted America into the world's leading narco-democracy without banana trees.

(A quick aside: asked by a journalism school student for advice on what top newspapers are looking for today when hiring, all-round wit Michael Rivero replied, "The ability to stand there with your hair on fire while assuring your readers that you can't smell smoke!")

Today there are two major strands, or 'trunks,' to this "elephant of the drug trade" that have been clearly described: first, the corruption in Arkansas and Louisiana through both Republican and Democratic Administrations commonly called "Mena," and catalogued in both print and film in books like "Partners in Power" and documentaries like "Obstruction of Justice" and "The Clinton Chronicles."

The second is the meticulously researched Dark Alliance series by Gary Webb last year in the San Jose Mercury News, detailing the intelligence connections behind the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles and over 110 other American cities.

No one needs to be reminded of the human cost that has been necessary to bring these matters into the light of day.

If there is a Holy Grail in this quest to bring these criminals who have stolen a whole country to justice, it is in connecting the 'trunk' of the crack cocaine epidemic with the 'tail' of the cocaine which moved (and moves) through the channels pioneered by Oliver North, Donald Gregg, Felix Rodriguez, and Barry Seal.

THE SECOND ISSUE OF THE DRUGMONEY TIMES

"In my 30 year history in the Drug Enforcement Administration and related agencies, the major targets of my investigations almost invariably turned out to be working for the CIA."

-- Dennis Dayle, former chief of an elite DEA enforcement unit.

Now, I make no claims to having discovered the drug smuggling equivalent of what in physics is called the 'unified field theory.' But a recent development to be reported in next weeks' second issue of the DrugMoney Times has raised my hopes that this scandal WILL, unlike the Kennedy Assassination, someday be broken -- and in doing so, who knows? -- it might even shed light on THAT primal curse of Cain placed on the American people.

We have recently come into possession of official court documents from a courageous attorney in Mobile Alabama, which implicate high figures in our government in the so-called Dixie Mafia drug running organization, including U.S. Attorneys, federal judges, Customs agents, DEA Special Agents, and a certain special agent in the FBI whose name has surfaced again and again in the current drug smuggling scandal going on in Montana.(It will probably surprise none of vyou to know that Billy bob Bottoms is also associated with these figures.)

What's more, these people have DIRECT links both to Barry Seal and to the criminal organization responsible for the torture killing of DEA agent Kiki Camarerna in Guadalajara Mexico.

To put it bluntly: Kiki Camarena's killers probably had official U.S. Government connections. (What a long strange trip its been, it suddenly occurs to me: I'm not even really surprised.)

SO WHY AM I TELLING YOU THIS NOW?

Simple: I'm in over my head! I'm going to need all the informational, logistical, and emotional support I can get to break this story. And if that means passing on this information, which was freely given to me, to other, more experienced journalists, so be it.

Also: To those of you who requested preview copies of "The Secret Heartbeat":

Any advice or assistance you can provide on marketing this so-far successfully embargoed project will be gratefully accepted.

As I write this, I am sitting on the verandah of (the horror! the horror!) my parent's house in Florida, where I have retreated for one final push in attempting to find outlets for marketing and international distribution for "The Secret Heartbeat of America."

Had someone told me a year ago that my effort would have ended in this...hell, I STILL would have done it.

I am extremely proud of the work I've done; and consider it an honor to have been useful (even in a limited way) in bringing the stories of American heroes like Linda Ives, Jean Duffey, and Russell Welch to a broader public.

William Blake said "If a fool would persist in his folly, he would become wise." I may be proving him right. But if I am, I will leave with a clear conscience, knowing I did something with my life besides wreaking whatever havoc I have left in me to wreak!

Best,
